Robin Douglas Visit

Cold showers every morning, chapel twice a day, mandatory weekly letters home . . . these are just a few of the routines that Robin Douglas described during his annual visit to talk to the Grade 8s about his time at Shawnigan between 1952-1960. Accompanying him was son Taylor '00, whose experiences were closer to what our students know. Their visit ties in with the unit the class is currently studying in Social Studies on the history of the School. Over the 12 years Robin has done these talks, he said the same questions come up repeatedly, especially: What the food was like? "Very monotonous. And only recently have I been able to eat oatmeal again!" He told stories of building forts in the back woods and bread eating contests, and read from his own Grade 8 report card and his first letter home to his parents. We are grateful to Robin for his continued interest and willingness to come over each year to speak to the class. It is much appreciated.
