If you would like to listen to today's race at Henley please visit:http://dhutchis.googlepages.com/homeThe following commentary is from Dean Thorlakson, parent of one of the rowers:Race 52, Shawnigan Lake vs. Abingdon School of England. The last race before the tea break, it began at 3:50 with slightly cloudy skies. Today I had the fortune to be able to ride in the umpires' launch with some of the other Shawnigan parents. This view of the race is entirely different and exciting, however, the rules of the launch are, you may not cheer on your boat at all. Therefore, the discussion I could hear were of the Abingdon and Shawnigan parents conversing about the race at hand in the typical Henley Royal Regatta way.Shawnigan got off the start quite nicely. From my vantage point on the left side of the launch Shawnigan had beaten Abingdon off the line and were slightly in front. Since the race goes against the current, the coxwains must be vigilant to keep the boats straight. Isa did a great job keeping them on track!By the half way point, Shawnigan had a 1 boat length lead. By the finish, Shawnigan had pulled 2 boat lengths away. Official results: Shawnigan by 2 lengths.Shawnigan's next race on Saturday is between Shrewsbury School from England which is last year's winner who defeated Brentwood. On the other half of the draw, the Australian champs defeated RGS of the UK to move to the semi-final on that side coming up against Eton College of the UK who defeated St. Joseph's Prep from the USA.
