Tour de Rock
click on the image below to view slide show The October sun shone as the 2008 team of cyclists from the Tour de Rock, streamed their way through the gates of Shawnigan with police sirens announcing their arrival. Cheered on by our student body and staff, the riders were welcomed with great enthusiasm. After some short speeches, introductions and singing our National anthem, the riders were presented with a cheque from the students and staff for over $10,000. The Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock raises money for pediatric cancer research and programs for children with a history of cancer including Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes is a place where kids are able go to forget about their daily struggles with cancer. True to their word if $10,000 was raised, our Head of School Alex M. along with our Deputy Heads shaved their heads on the steps of Marion Hall. Some last minute pledges were drummed up which had one of our interns lose his locks as well. Several community members were involved in addition to Monica S., a current student who donated her tresses to "Locks of Love" Community spirit and compassion are alive and well at Shawnigan Lake School.
