MOvember
A collage of hairy upper lips shown above was the result of one month of growth during MOvember by our staff members. Movember (the month formally known as November) is a charity fundraiser held during November each year for prostate cancer. We ran a contest with this collage amongst the staff to see if anyone could guess the names to the 'staches. #27 was not a staff member but I am sure many of you will recognize who it is. At the start of Movember men register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, then have the remainder of the month to grow their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about prostate cancer. Every year around 22,300 Canadian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 die of the disease, making it the number one cancer threat to Canadian men. All donations are made directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada who will use the funds to create awareness and fund research for prostate cancer. Shawnigan's Kiel Petersen '02 organized the event here at School which saw involvement from staff and students. In typical fashion, Kiel is still rounding up the donations that were pledged so the tally is merely a best guess which is at $800-$1000 at this point.
