The 4th Annual Hungerford Cup & 25th Annual Head of the Lake
We hope you can join us for the start of Shawnigan’s 2009 rowing season. The Hungerford Sprints will start this weekend on Saturday morning with time trials at 9:45 and the Head of the Lake race starts Sunday morning at 10:30. The Hungerford Sprints are short course (1000 m) races that mark the start of the West Coast rowing season and are a tribute to the achievement of Shawnigan alumnus George Hungerford ‘61. George and rowing partner Roger Jackson won the Men’s Pair Gold Medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. George exemplifies Shawnigan’s core values of dedication to athletics, academics and social responsibility. The Head of the Lake race is a time trial event starting at Memory Island and finishing at the government dock. This is 15 minute flat out race against the clock…..no paddling is allowed! I you can come for either Saturday or Sunday’s races, please put some time aside to tour the School. Race schedule and other information is available at the regatta web site. Cheers Roland Borsato ‘72
