14th Annual SLS/Langara/Derek Hyde-Lay Memorial Fishing Derby
“SLS celebrities join Shawnigan fishing venture in the Queen Charlottes”
This year’s annual SLS/Langara fishing trip to the Queen Charlottes has a new twist – two celebrity fishermen! This year, the 14th annual SLS/Langara fishing derby features star guests: Graham Anderson ’46 and Canon Horace McClelland. In summer time Mr. Anderson is usually found giving guided history tours in Europe, but this July he’ll be experiencing the joys one of the world’s most pristine environments. Graham, who has taught at Shawnigan for more than half a century, confesses that he’s not really an ardent fisherman, nor is former Shawnigan Headmaster and Chaplain Horace McClelland. But both GLA and Horace do share a fondness for camaraderie, great stories and possibly a glass or two of fine scotch. All those will be in abundance – along with whales, eagles, sea lions and some of the best salmon fishing in the world. As always, Langara Lodge owner Rick Bourne ’69, promises to treat all guests coming under the SLS banner to a good discount and a great time. If you are interested in this superb fishing adventure from July 14th – July 18th, 2009, please contact Steve Housser ’67 at shousser@sls.bc.ca or phone 250- 743-6290 for further details. Anyone connected to Shawnigan – as a current or past student, parents of same and friends – is welcome. It can be a great bonding time for old classmates or for father/son, mother/daughter combos. The fishing is great, the company excellent and you don’t have to be a hotshot fisherman to enjoy the beauty of the Queen Charlottes, the old Haida village or the first class surroundings.
