Shawnigan Invades San Diego!
This past weekend saw a small but vocal contingent of SLS alumni descend upon PETCO Park in San Diego for the annual USA Sevens Rugby Tournament. The tournament stretched over two days and featured a number of exciting matches. Day One saw the United States upset Australia and come within a hair’s breadth of shocking South Africa, as well as the upstart Kenyans delighting their colourful supporters by downing mighty New Zealand.
Day Two was no less entertaining as the Canadian team, after struggling mightily on Day One, managed to capture the Shield competition, while a creative, free-flowing side from Argentina topped England in the Cup Final. A fantastic end to a wonderful weekend of rugby!
Also worthy of note is that Patty Allard ‘02 made the trip to San Diego, but as an official! Patty officiated 14 matches over the two days and did a fine job indeed of making sure all of the games stayed on the up-and-up. Well done Patty!
