Headmaster's Blog on Monday, 14th Dec.- Invictus
Apart from the obvious associations with the much-touted movie which has just come out and which I saw last night along with a host of others from the School, this blog bears its title because the word sums up so well my sentiments at the end of a term full of challenges and tests, from which we are emerging "unconquered" or "unbowed"! The vagaries of scary pandemics, unusually dismal weather patterns and the inevitable trials and tribulations of the human condition, have all served to test our collective resolve and I remain amazed and impressed at how well this school community has repeatedly passed the searching examination of its resilience. Trying to remain 'invictus' whatever life throws at you is surely a worthy aspiration no matter what age you are as the multitude of well-worn sayings and home-spun philosophies would all attest to the fact that it is not all going to be "smooth sailing" to quote but one! The trick is to keep reminding yourself of larger goals and, perhaps, to take some encouragement from the huge obstacles that others have overcome or are trying to overcome right now. The notion of being 'unbowed' by any of the adversity that we have to face is a courageous and a powerful one, so 'invictus' we will remain!
