Sunny Skies and Great Fun at DHL Golf Classic!

June 3, 2010 proved to be another great day in the sun for Shawnigan golfers.  A one-day reprieve from weeks of rain was a welcome stroke of luck.  A spirited collection of 139 alumni and friends took to the links in what proved to be the largest turnout in tournament history.

Tournament rule changes this year, brought about to level the playing field for men and women contestants by putting men at the blue tees, proved to be a challenge for some and a breath of fresh air for others.  After all, winning the coveted Gold Jacket is not just a walk in the park!

First to take the podium before the start of the evening portion of the tournament was Steve Housser ‘67. Steve gave a heartfelt tribute to Colin Yorath ‘59 who passed away suddenly earlier in the day.  Colin was one of the founders of the Annual DHL Golf Tournament and a strong supporter of the School.  We will not forget Colin.  A standing salute to our good friend.  Our condolences to Colin's wife Joy, daughter Stephanie and son Christopher.

Master of Ceremonies and Golf Committee Chairman Chris Cooper ‘88 guided the apres golf festivities.  The highlight as always, was a very entertaining and informative State of the School presentation by Headmaster David Robertson. This year featuring his newest toy…..(not Nigel)….an iPad. 

The 2010 Gold Jacket winners with a well-deserved score of 61 were: Vince Semenuk ‘03, Patty Allard ‘02, Brad Johnstone ‘02, Jordon Dew ‘02. Well done lads!

In other skill competions, Chris Cooper ‘88 was "King of the Flat Stick", longest drive winners were Ray Schuler and Mia Bolton ‘05, and KP honours went to Marilyn Chambers and Patrick Weeks. 

Winners in the Good Fortune competition included the ecstatic (and now wealthier) Don Bull ‘81, winner of the 50/50 draw and a cool $1,170, as well as Doug Anderson ’72 and David Robinson ’95.
