Class of 2004 Five-Year Reunion
On August 22, 2009 the graduating class of 2004 got together at the Yaletown Brewery in Vancouver for our 5 year reunion. An event like this is dreaded by most high school grads, but for Shawnigan graduates it's always something to look forward to. We may have matured a little bit since high school, and some of us even have careers now, but the quality of the people and friends we made at school hasn't changed at all.
This is why after 5 years apart it was easy picking up where we left off, falling into old jokes and reminiscing about stories from times past. People came from far and wide, like Mark Raven from New Brunswick and Jason Lee from San Fransisco. It was also great to see friends from other grad classes who tagged along for the good times. Nights like Saturday night are ones to be remembered and the 2004 grad class sure made the most of it. Thanks to the school for putting us up and I can only hope the 10 year is just as good.

2009 Grad Alex Thorlakson into finals at World Rowing Junior Championships!
The 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships are underway in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, and 2009 graduate Alex Thorlakson has advanced to the final of the coxed four competition after his crew won their opening heat in a time of 6:24.77. Their winning time saw them finish ahead of squads from the United States and New Zealand, who are now faced with qualifying for the finals through a repechage.
No stranger to the pressures of major international competition, Alex, a native of Kelowna, BC, was a key member of Shawnigan's 2008 crew that emerged victorious in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup competition of the Henley Royal Regatta. His team will now shift their focus as they attempt to capture gold in the finals. According to FISA, the world rowing federation, conditions were near perfect with almost flat waters, warm temperatures and hardly any wind. This year, 783 athletes from 66 nations are competing in this top regatta for Junior-age rowers. - Ryan Panton '97
