2010 Shawnigan Summer Squash Camp
2010 Shawnigan Summer Rugby Camp and Coaching Clinic
The campus and facilities at Shawnigan are inspirational for the educators, coaches and instructors who have the privilege and pleasure of using them. For over twenty years, the B.C. Soccer Association shared this secret and rented our fields and residences to run their internationally famous soccer camps. In 2001, we officially opened our gates to other organizations and started the summer programs. Groups representing various passions have graced the campus, bringing together special blends of talent, professional development, friendship and everlasting memories. For those of us who work the five weeks, starting at the beginning of July, it is a time for sharing what Shawnigan has to offer with other grateful guests. The unique setting of our 300-acre campus provides a natural, distraction free environment to enhance the benefits of group bonding. In addition to the ponds, forests and immaculately kept gardens, the grounds include the Marion Hall dining facility that seats 500, a two gymnasium Sportsplex with weight rooms and squash courts, the Hugh Wilkinson multi-functional theatre, sports pavilion, boathouse, dance studio, music theatre, lecture theatre, classrooms, fields, hiking trails, tennis courts, and waterfront.
Thanks to a very generous donation by the Lecky family, we now also have a 36-bed facility and an 11 bed annex that are open for rent throughout the year. John Lecky House has become the residence for Rowing Canada and Rugby Canada when they hold their frequent training camps at Shawnigan. When they aren't here, other groups usually are. University crews, overseas field hockey and rugby teams, debaters, bands and a world youth group have signed the guest book since the House opened in September 2003. John Lecky's dream of "bringing the world to Shawnigan" is certainly being met.
I welcome you to contact me anytime throughout the year, and I will arrange a campus tour to see if we have what you need to help organize your successful group venture.
Sincerely,
Gary Dukelow, B. Ed, M.P.A.

Shawnigan Lake School Summer Rugby Camp and Coaching Clinic – July 4th - 9th
The Shawnigan Lake School Summer Rugby Camp features a world class residential coaching clinic led by professionals Scott Johnson and Jon Humphries, both from the famous Ospreys Rugby Organization. Humphries captained Wales as a hooker and was a squad member for the World Cups in 1995 and 1999. He now coaches the Ospreys forwards, and is recognized as one of the top scrum coaches in Britain. Johnson has been a highly successful assistant coach for the Welsh (where he worked alongside the current All Black staff) and Australian National Teams, and also did a stint as the Head Coach for the American Eagles. He now leads the Ospreys as their Director of Coaching.
Participants of the coaching clinic will reside with these two gentlemen in the John Lecky House Complex, buildings used by Canada's National Teams when they frequently train on the campus of Shawnigan Lake School. Two full sessions a day, followed by evening presentations and socials will provide plenty of opportunity for "behind the scenes" dialogue, making this experience truly unique. For a (reasonable) fee, opportunities to golf, water-ski, play tennis and fish will also be available on one (or two) of the afternoons.
Coinciding with this coaching clinic will be a residential program for experienced boys from grades 9 - 11. The Shawnigan Lake School coaching staff, led by Tim Murdy the current Canadian U20 Head Coach, will focus on skill development and fun over the 6 days, using the expertise of Scott Johnson, Jon Humphries and the other coaches on site to give the participants a once in a lifetime opportunity for inspiration and rapid improvement in a world class setting. A maximum of 50 boys and 20 coaches will ensure top quality instruction and camaraderie from every angle.
Due to limited residences this year we are unable to provide the experience for females. Plans for 2011 include both genders for the student and coaching programs.
