Three Shawnigan players have been selected to the Canadian Under-17 rugby team that will travel to the United States during the upcoming winter break.
Grade 11 students Brandon H. and Djustice S-D join Grade 10 loose forward Oliver N. as members of the Shawnigan program that will don the maple leaf for fixtures at the end of December against the USA High School All Americans in Santa Barbara, CA. The three young men will be hoping their performances in California will be enough to see them selected for the Canadian entry in the prestigious Wellington Festival, an invitation-only tournament held each April in England.
Duxbury House Director Gary Dukelow will again serve as an assistant coach for the Canadian team, which has traditionally been well-represented by Shawnigan players. This will be Brandon and Oliver's first opportunity to represent Canada, while Djustice joined four other current Shawnigan student-athletes in last year's Wellington team.
The School congratulates all three players on this tremendous honour and wishes them the best of luck on their trip to California!
