Riots and Rebellion

The only surprise about the current mayhem in London and, by extension, other major cities in England, is that no-one in authority could have predicted that it would have happened. In case anyone has not noticed, there's a phenomenon that the marginalized, the disenchanted and the unheard have discovered and that is the unifying power of instant communication in galvanizing their urges to protest. If you throw in a certain confusion in the whole realm of values, discipline, privileges and rights, then you have a potentially explosive cocktail, as we are seeing.

Random Thoughts on a Plane from New York

It's hard not to become reflective when you're surrounded by a teeming mass of humanity in one of the world's larger cities. You start to speculate as to how it all works, or indeed, how it doesn't for so many. There are just too many people.

Back!

If you haven't blogged for a while does that mean that you are 'backblogged'?? Surprised by my unusual silence, I do feel that it is time to commit some thoughts to print, even if no-one seems to have missed my musings! The trouble with being old-fashioned is that you always feel that you have to have something of great importance to say if you are committing it to print, but that's certainly not current thinking. The lines between speech and print have long since been blurred and electronic conversations are almost the order of the day.

Peace

There is little doubt that anyone who bothers to read these submissions will have had some peace from this blog over the last few months! However, as it is International Peace Day, it is a perfect time for me to speak up again. The key to peace is education because  it is only through education that we can hope to avoid the ignorance and fear that have been at the heart of so many conflicts throughout history.
