Outer Edge

Grade 8 & 9 camping trip to the U.S.

Out of country and away from civilization, junior students ventured to the Outer Edge during the last week of school.

As Shawnigan's seniors battled through a final week of exams and events, nearly 100 grade 8s and 9s journeyed to Washington State's Camp Saturna for five days of outdoor adventure.

The Outer Edge camping trip pushed students into an environment unfamiliar to many of them, away from the comforts of cell service and the internet. While there, the young people engaged in team-building activities and learned about nature, leadership, and themselves.

Activities included rock climbing, canoeing and kayaking, orienteering, homemade raft racing, arts and crafts, archery, and the daunting wall challenge.

Campers also contributed to group meals and still had free time for volleyball, swimming and general relaxation on Camp Saturna's 133-acre lakefront retreat.
