Shawnigan Lake School’s 270 acre lakeside campus, complete with state-of-the-art facilities, provides the ideal setting for a wide range of events, from sport camps and professional training clinics to corporate retreats and alumni weddings.
Shawnigan has played host to the Vancouver Canucks Development Camp, Rugby Canada training camps, BC Hockey camps, Rowing Canada camps, the Cowichan BC Summer Games, the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation Gala, and Saje Natural Wellness’s annual corporate retreat, as well as numerous other single- and multi-day corporate, sporting and private events.
Whether you are from an external group looking to enjoy our facilities or wish to take part in a program run by the school, our door is always open. We love sharing our beautiful Vancouver Island home with the outside world and look forward to welcoming you onto campus in the near future.
Facilities
Our extensive facilities include sports fields and courts, a rugby pavilion, a private dock and boathouse, an arena and sportsplex (including basketball gyms, squash courts, and a fitness centre), a dance studio, meeting and event spaces, and residences, along with catering, medical and laundry facilities.

Canucks Autism Network
Shawnigan is a proud supporter of the Canucks Autism Network, each year hosting camps during the year and a summer camp for children with autism and their families. -
Cowichan Hospital Gala
The Cowichan Hospital Gala is the largest fundraiser for the hospital that takes place in the Cowichan Valley. This annual black-tie event has taken place at Shawnigan for several years, with Shawnigan students and staff contributing as musical entertainers and servers and our catering services planning a sumptuous but cost-effective meal to ensure the charity benefits as much as it can from the fundraising event. -
Thunder Rugby
Thunder Rugby, in partnership with BC Rugby and the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (ISPARC), runs Rookie Rugby programs for indigenous youth, aged 8-14, in various locations across BC. Shawnigan Lake School is proud to support Thunder Rugby by hosting over 50 athletes for a week long camp every summer.

Corporate Retreats
Shawnigan Lake School has been the retreat host for a number of small and large corporate groups, including Saje Natural Wellness. While the campus is easily accessible from larger towns such as Victoria and Nanaimo, our campus’s forested, lakeside setting is conducive to a focused retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, where group members can fully immerse themselves in team-building retreat activities. The wide variety of venues on campus provides means we can accommodate large group gatherings as well as smaller breakout rooms and quiet areas for personal reflection. All our facilities are technology-enabled and serviced by WiFi to meet your communication needs. From September to June, we are able to accommodate up to 36 people for overnight retreats and larger numbers for day events. From July through August, we have greater flexibility and can host groups ranging in size from 10 to 350 people. We can also provide catering for your retreat throughout the year, with a menu geared to your group’s specific needs. Whether your focus is sports, art or wellness and your specialty is youth experience or adult education, Shawnigan Lake School can provide the perfect setting for your camp. We have year-round availability, with the option of hosting camps of between 10 to 36 individuals from September through June and 10 to 350 individuals from July through August. While Shawnigan Lake School’s campus is short drive west from Highway 1 and easily accessible from larger centres such as Victoria and Nanaimo, our forested lakeside setting offers a sense of focused retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing your campers to fully engage with camp activities and with each other. In addition to our extensive sport facilities, athletic therapy room and on-site catering, we have a wide range of venues suitable for meetings, lectures and tests.
