Shawnigan SportsPlex
THE SPORTSPLEX CAMPAIGN
Pursuing Athletic Excellence—first class field hockey, squash and cardio-fitness “centres of excellence”
In a 2007 strategic planning review, Shawnigan’s Board of Governors identified the need for improved indoor sports facilities. The green light was given and ground broken in January 2008. Now Shawnigan is set to get a terrific new Sportsplex. But there was one condition: it must be built without adding any debt. This means funding by philanthropy. Construction was kick-started by commitments of $1.7 million dollars from governors alone. Several other donors stepped up with cash and pledges to bring the total money available to $3.4 million dollars on a $3.9 million dollar project.
We’re now pushing hard to raise the last $500-thousand dollars.
There is no minimum or maximum donation. Any amount, no matter how large or small is greatly and sincerely appreciated.
If you are able to make a donation, this will help tremendously towards establishing momentum in this final phase of the Sportsplex Capital Campaign.
Here’s what Sportsplex Phases 1 + 2 are adding to the school:
- second full-size gymnasium
- 4 new squash courts
- cardio-fitness centre
- two additional out door tennis courts
- artificial, all-weather pitch for field hockey and soccer
The new hockey pitch is already open and has been a tremendous success. As well as providing a fabulous, permanent facility for Shawnigan students, it has become a magnet for attracting talented players and is a sought after tournament venue for Vancouver Island. It has done much to enhance Shawnigan’s sporting reputation and overall “offering”.
The cardio-fitness centre will enhance core strength that will benefit all athletic endeavors at Shawnigan. Our new squash courts and recently hired top international coach will push an already excellent program to the forefront of independent schools competition and make squash another “centre of excellence” at Shawnigan.
