Adventures in Outdoor Pursuits

Paddling, flying and camping
Over the last few weeks the Outdoor Pursuits students have been busy paddling to Valdes Island, flying across the Koksilah River and camping at Cowichan River.

Paddling to Valdes Island
Another glorious weekend was spent paddling in the Gulf Islands. This time we took 5 hours to paddle from Round Island (just south of Dodds Narrows), passed Link, DeCourcy, Ruxton and Pylades Islands until we landed on Blackberry Point on Valdes Island. We all enjoyed a long sleep in on Saturday, after which we began the creation of a sweat lodge on the beach, just inches from the ocean at high tide. On Sunday, we paddled hard and cut an hour and a half off our paddle time to get back to Round Island and the bus, which took everyone back to well-earned showers at SLS!

Camping at Cowichan
River buckets of rain, high winds and survival skills proven - that was the gist of this past weekend. There was also walking, listening, stories and fun. Everyone conspired to have a great time, despite challenging weather. What a great bunch of people!
