Art 11 Guest Speaker

Will Wheaton '04.
It is always a pleasure to welcome Shawnigan alumni back to the School, but it is especially pleasurable when they are willing to share their passions and expertise with current students. Such was the case this morning when Will Wheaton '04 (Copeman's) returned to speak with the Art 11 students about his post Shawnigan experience in industrial design.

At times, the gap between high school learning and the "real world" application of these skills can be enormous. To help bring credibility to the classroom learning, hearing from current practitioners is critical. Recently, Will has been accepted into the Masters of Architecture program at the University of Washington. He was able to show the students his portfolio for this program and speak about the need to develop their visual literacy and drawing skills. It was fantastic to see how his creative ideas took shape from the early conceptual sketch through to a finished product.

To end the session on a practical note, Will had the class go through some basic perspective drawing exercises that he has found valuable in his own work. The students left the class inspired and challenged.

A special thanks to Will for taking the time to come and share his experiences with our students.
