Bantam Hockey

Rose City Challenge Tournament
This past weekend, the Bantam Hockey team travelled down to Portland to compete in the Rose City Challenge Tournament. There were two divisions, both made up of ten teams. Shawnigan was competing in the top tier 'AA' of the tournament. Their first game was against Delta Academy. Shawnigan lost 5-3 in an excellent game. Delta's fifth goal was an empty-netter, as Shawnigan had pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in an attempt to tie the game. The game MVP was Karsten L.

The next day, Shawnigan faced the Capital Thunder from California in their first game. Shawnigan came out firing on all cylinders winning 8-3. Game MVP was Noah T. In the final match of the day, Shawnigan faced the North Van Storm in a must-win game to see who would advance to semi-finals. Shawnigan played a solid, two-way game, winning a tight match 2-1. The game MVP was Jo Jo T.C.

Monday morning saw Shawnigan facing the Delta Academy again in the semi-final. It was an intense, even match still tied 1-1 with 8 minutes remaining in the third period. However, at this point, Shawnigan started to show the effects of having a short bench. Fatigue was setting in, and the boys ran into some penalty troubles. Unfortunately, these penalties led to 3 goals against late in the third.

The boys should all be very proud of themselves, as they played with great skill and passion over the weekend. Well done boys!
