Cell Phone Survey

Students study cell phone use at school

The survey results are in.

Two Shawnigan students have finished a qualitative study about cell phone use at school.

As part of their Science and Technology 11 class with Mrs. Gillian Coy, Morgan A. and Jack B. recently sent out a survey to fellow students, challenging their peers to go a day without using their cell phones.

Those who responded were asked whether or not they were able to last an entire day, and what their ensuing emotional reaction was.

Morgan and Jack both say they were interested, and in some cases surprised, by the (anonymous) responses they got - ranging from those who couldn't survive, to those who said they were quite comfortable without their phones.

The topic is one that's been studied at universities, but seldom in the high school environment, meaning the pair created new knowledge with their study.
