Comparative Civilizations 12

A taste of India
As one of the world's oldest civilizations, India is a must for our research in Comparative Civilizations 12.  Working with the excellent CBC documentary, "India Reborn," part of our study focusses on India as "the land of a thousand dishes." In class, we considered the theme of "Food Divides, Food Unites." Discussions topics included the Langar (a daily free, communal, vegetarian meal at the Golden Temple of Amritsar), concerns regarding agricultural pressures in Punjab, the stringent rules of the Jains and so much more. With Georg Stroebel's help, we managed to experience our own "taste of India" in a fun, communal experience united around cooking and eating.

We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
