Prefects Chapel

An uplifting Saturday service

Emotions ran high during the final Saturday Chapel Service of the school year.

Featuring thoughtful speeches, moving musical performances, and early graduation ceremonies for a handful of seniors, the 'Prefects Chapel Service' laid the groundwork for a week of celebration, thanks, and goodbyes.

Cecil A. began proceedings by paying tribute to the many special moments that have defined the year.

Julianne D. soon added her perspective, speaking about memories, Shawnigan's impact, and the passing of time.

The final speech came from Head of School Nina H., who moved many in the audience to tears with her last words of advice to her Shawnigan peers.

The musical entertainment began with Rex L. leading the entire congregation in an energetic rendition of Celebration, by 'Kool and the Gang.'

Perhaps the highlight of the service came from four graduating students, Joseph D, Fanah M, Rex L, and Francesca W., who earned another standing ovation with their interpretation of John Legend's Glory.

The service also included an abbreviated graduation ceremony, paying tribute to nine senior rowers who will be leaving a few days early to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta in the UK.

In his address, Headmaster David Robertson recalled cheering fervently for Shawnigan athletes during his 2008 trip to Henley, and paid tribute to the personal excellence exemplified by the rowers.
