Brentwood game and 7's tournament!
An impressive weekend for the Senior Girl's Rugby team with wins against Brentwood College on Saturday along with being crowned Vancouver Island high school Girls 7-a-side team Champion on Sunday.

Coming into the Brentwood as underdogs, the girls really stepped up after a scoreless first half. Brentwood came out with guns blazing and scored a try from the opening second half kick-off. Not to be deterred, the Shawnigan 'Iron Women' responded with a well-earned try by Gaby W. to bring the game even at 7-7. They often say that a team is most vulnerable when they have just scored and this was the case. Brentwood scored an unconverted try to make it 12-7 in their favour. This was the last time Brentwood would score as Shawnigan took over the last 20 minutes to make it 31-12. A strong win and an outstanding effort as a team. We were superior at the breakdown and our back line put together many strong runs to provide the remainder of the scoring. The girls will play Cowichan, last year's AAA Provincial Champions, and once again they will  test their skills against a strong side.

Sunday was the BC Qualifying 7's Tournament which saw Shawnigan win all of their games in convincing style. Hannah D., a developing National 7's player provided some strong running and scintillating tackles. Also playing her strongest game to date was Amy H., however, it was a team effort and Captains Madison B. and Michelle E. are very proud of the way the girls played. There is lots of hard work ahead as we move into the championship part of the season.
