Galen Loiselle
Galen is well versed in the boarding system and has enjoyed a rapport with students as well as earning a sense of trust from them. “I believe I have a clear idea of what makes the House work—an over-all firm tone tempered with patience, flexibility, and humour."
Not just a House Director, Galen began his teaching career at Shawnigan in 2003. A member of the Socials Department, he combines his passion for outdoors and travelling with teaching, drawing on his own personal experience as well as that of his students to enrich the physical and cultural studies of many countries. One of Galen’s favourite countries is Germany, where he spent a year as an exchange student. His enthusiasm sparked a German Club at the School last year and, with many of those students back again, Galen plans on having a great German group entry in this year’s International Week.
As well as teaching, Galen coaches grade 8 rowing and is involved in the round-table leadership programme (grade 8s) at the School. He is an outdoor enthusiast and has enjoyed a 4-day kayaking trip around the Gulf Islands, a two-week back-packing trip through the Peruvian Andes and a month-long Thailand re-building trip with the Shawnigan EDGE programme.
