Gregg Perry

Gregg serves as Director of Musical Theatre and Manager of the Hugh C. Wilkinson Studio Theatre and also teaches Drama and Graphic Design. He holds degrees from Dalhousie University (Philosophy) and the University of Calgary (Secondary English).

Originally from Calgary, Gregg moved to Vancouver Island in 1982 and has been an active member of the performing arts community ever since. In addition to directing first-class musicals at Shawnigan and acting and directing in community theatre in the Cowichan Valley, Gregg was the initiator and first producer of the Chemainus Theatre Festival. For ten summers, he directed a summer drama program called Putting On A Show! for 8 to 16 year olds, mounting over 50 shows complete with singing and choreography.

When asked what he likes best about working at Shawnigan, Gregg replies, “The people.” He also points to the community ethos, which inspires and encourages excellence in a supportive way, as a distinguishing factor. The involvement of Shawnigan students in so many activities also amazes him. While professional theatre companies rehearse intensively six days a week, our students rehearse six hours a week and are also rowing in national championships, studying for provincial and AP exams, and doing the myriad other things that Shawnigan students do.

Gregg is married and has three grown children—one son and two daughters.
