Facilities & Services
Like every other 11-year-old muggle, I was pretty disappointed when I didn´t get my Hogwarts entrance letter on my birthday. But Shawnigan's almost as good -- we´ve got the massive dining hall, the intense interhouse competitions, and the mad professors. Except there´s no Voldemort, and I guess instead of wands we get gold books. -- student, grade 10
Marion Hall, the venue for daily dining as well as many special occasions, has become an essential element in our community. By design, we gather as a complete community more often than other schools. In one way or another, we assemble as a school no fewer than a dozen times each week. These regular meetings allow us to celebrate important dates (a birthday, an historical anniversary, a recent accomplishment by an individual, a team, a club, or a house), and to respond as a community to the world around us.
The idea of gathering together is an essential part of the Shawnigan experience. We understand that people vary widely in their belief systems and habits. While we insist on the importance of respect for differences, we insist equally on naming the enduring values that unite us: honesty, respect, courtesy, pride, involvement, hard work, and success.
We are fortunate to inhabit one of the largest and most extraordinary campuses in North America. This is a huge benefit to our students and to our way of living here, providing space, solitude, and beauty. We have taken full advantage of this asset by giving our facilities room to breathe.
Our student services are extensive and include a medical office and nursing staff, food services of the highest quality, a laundry service, a travel office, and a full range of communication services. Don't hesitate to ask for further details when you visit the school.
