Our Program
Shawnigan teachers have so much commitment. You have to love teaching in order to teach here. –student, grade 11
Shawnigan is about opportunity, commitment, and discovery. Serious students will enjoy the challenge, the knowledge, the laughter, and the freedom of our classrooms. You can find superb teachers in every school, but the faculty at Shawnigan provides a combination of camaraderie, respect, knowledge, skill and commitment few schools can match. Last year's graduates (June, 2008) are studying this year at the University of Toronto, Queens, McGill, Cambridge University, Harvard, UBC, and so on, but their gratitude to their former teachers does not center solely around academic preparation. They appreciate the care Shawnigan people took in helping them to mature and to discover. Go to academic page.
For the serious athlete, we have both the facilities and the coaches to develop your skills to the next level -- and the next, and the next. We have a long history of seeing Shawnigan athletes prepare themselves to take on the challenges of the finest post-secondary sports programs. Go to athletics page.
For the artist, we have the studios and the instruction to help you grow in your craft and deepen your sense of artistry. We regularly graduate students who find places in leading art school in North America and abroad. Go to Fine Arts page.
Ideally, we want each student to fully embrace each of these areas, and to contribute to a school that places a high value on respect, support, and friendship. We're all here for the same reason -- for the challenge of becoming better at the things we love and the things we'll need in the future. If you're ready to meet these challenges, then you're ready for Shawnigan.
Shawnigan sport disciplines students to be great athletes, but also helps you learn to balance your time better because you learn to devote yourself to practice and then devote yourself to study as well. –student, grade 11
The Fine Arts Concert is one of the many highlights of the year. We will be getting a preview of the musical, which the students in Musical Theatre work very hard on all year long, to perfect their performance for the shows at the end of the year. –student, grade 11
