Regretfully we inform our alumni that former Shawnigan Lake teacher, Kenneth J. Hickling passed away on Thursday February 12, 2009. Mr. Hickling was a member of the faculty from 1965-1972, who taught P.T. and draughting as well as leading the Outdoors Club. In addition Mr. Hickling was also Housemaster of Groves’ House from 1970-1972. Our heart-felt condolences to his family.

We hope you can join us for the start of Shawnigan’s 2009 rowing season. The Hungerford Sprints will start this weekend on Saturday morning with time trials at 9:45 and the Head of the Lake race starts Sunday morning at 10:30. The Hungerford Sprints are short course (1000 m) races that mark the start of the West Coast rowing season and are a tribute to the achievement of Shawnigan alumnus George Hungerford ‘61. George and rowing partner Roger Jackson won the Men’s Pair Gold Medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Founder's Day/Reunion Weekend is in the planning stages and we want you to be there! In addition to our annual reunions this coming October we are also implementing the "Gold Club" .
Christmas on Vancouver Island was choc-a-bloc with tons of snow and freezing temperatures but our Director of Advancement, Steve Housser '67 and his family found a way to beat the snow and cold!
