2009 Grad Alex Thorlakson into finals at World Rowing Junior Championships!

The 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships are underway in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, and 2009 graduate Alex Thorlakson has advanced to the final of the coxed four competition after his crew won their opening heat in a time of 6:24.77. Their winning time saw them finish ahead of squads from the United States and New Zealand, who are now faced with qualifying for the finals through a repechage.

Harvard Grabs Two

Congratulations to Alex and Lachlan Macintosh ‘09 who have just received acceptance to Harvard University. They were members of last year’s winning SLS crew at the Henley Royal Regatta, Alex is currently Head of School and Lachlan is Captain of Rowing. They will join their team mate Alex Housser ‘08, last year’s Captain of Rowing, who is currently in first year at Harvard.

Victorians! Please plan to join us on Tuesday, March 24th at the Union Club of British Columbia from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Headmaster David Robertson and other staff will be hosting a cocktail reception where alumni and parents will learn about new and exciting changes at SLS by watching a short new video titled “The Shawnigan Advantage”. The Headmaster will give an update on the School and answer questions from our guests. Appetizers and beverages will be served and a cash bar will be available.

The 4th Annual Hungerford Cup & 25th Annual Head of the Lake

We hope you can join us for the start of Shawnigan’s 2009 rowing season. The Hungerford Sprints will start this weekend on Saturday morning with time trials at 9:45 and the Head of the Lake race starts Sunday morning at 10:30. The Hungerford Sprints are short course (1000 m) races that mark the start of the West Coast rowing season and are a tribute to the achievement of Shawnigan alumnus George Hungerford ‘61. George and rowing partner Roger Jackson won the Men’s Pair Gold Medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Calgarians! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 27th to join us at the Glencoe Club from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Shawnigan Comes to Edmonton

Please join us on Monday, January 26th at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton for a cocktail reception at 6:00pm. Headmaster Dave Robertson and others will host this gathering where alumni and parents will have a chance to catch up on all things Shawnigan. A short new video titled "The Shawnigan Advantage" will be shown which offers a glimpse of some new and exciting changes at SLS. The Headmaster will give an update on the School and answer any questions from our guests.
