We hope you can join us for the start of Shawnigan’s 2009 rowing season. The Hungerford Sprints will start this weekend on Saturday morning with time trials at 9:45 and the Head of the Lake race starts Sunday morning at 10:30. The Hungerford Sprints are short course (1000 m) races that mark the start of the West Coast rowing season and are a tribute to the achievement of Shawnigan alumnus George Hungerford ‘61. George and rowing partner Roger Jackson won the Men’s Pair Gold Medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Molly Duignan '98 Groves' returned to Shawnigan for Founder's Day/Reunion Weekend in October 2008 and commented, "It's only in returning now that I can appreciate that I lived in Paradise for five years, despite any personal ups and downs along the way. We breathed fresh air, were conveniently far away from the 'real world' distractions and I don't think I realized how beautiful it was until I left and can go back and say, I was so lucky." In recalling those days, Molly indicated that her fondest memories are the people.

In July 2008, Peter Ericson '85 contacted the Alumni office at Shawnigan to enlist our help in locating a former Groves' classmate. Peter had planned a motorcycle trip to Mexico and was very keen on looking up his old friend Salvador Molina '85 who lives in Celaya, Mexico. After some correspondence, we were able to help these old boys re-connect and eventually they met up in Salvador's home town. Peter sent the following photos and account of their very happy reunion.
