The Shawnigan Preparatory Program (“Prep House”) immerses international students in an innovative academic curriculum designed specifically to help students build confidence in language, character and personality. Lessons, cultural experiences, and a small, close-knit, supportive family environment help to prepare students for success at Shawnigan Lake School and beyond.
The English+ Program is a two-or four-week residential English language summer camp designed to help attendees improve their English skills with the goal of attending secondary school or university in English-speaking countries. The comprehensive schedule includes:
25-35 hours of ELL classroom instruction with subjects that include science, art, and leadership
a variety of on-campus afternoon sports and fine arts activities
special off-campus weekend excursions to further explore British Columbia.
Shawnigan has reciprocal 1-8 week student exchange programs with schools in France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Chile. Participating on an exchange program allows students not only to immerse themselves in a different culture and language, but also to learn more about how their own cultures and countries are viewed by others.
Shawnigan offers three to four positions each year to gap students from all over the world. Gap students are usually 17- or 18-year-olds who are taking a year out between high school and post-secondary education.
Shawnigan is fortunate to have at least 32 nationalities represented amongst students and staff. This project acquires flags for every nation currently represented at the school and proudly displays them throughout the year. We invite you to support this initiative by funding your nation’s flag, supporting student cultural celebrations, or sharing aspects of your culture, language, history, and traditions with the school community.
Shawnigan Lake School is a co-educational boarding school on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The school is home to nationally-ranked academics, arts and athletics, with 100 per cent of graduates accepted to university.
