Shawnigan Regatta

Strong results from a great weekend

Shawnigan's rowing program is in good form and high spirits after a successful 2019 Shawnigan Regatta.

Hundreds of rowers, volunteers, and supporters enjoyed calm waters and sunny skies as the 59th edition of the School's regatta landed at West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park.

Facing schools and clubs around the region, the Shawnigan team produced strong results, including a gold medal in the U19 Women's Coxed Four event. Shawnigan also won seven silver medals and four bronze, earning 185 total points – second among all teams (behind Victoria City RC) and first among all schools.

The weekend kicked off with a special Ribbon-cutting and Boat Christening Ceremony on Friday, as the school opened the new extension to the Read Crewhouse. The Rogers and Shaw families were instrumental in funding the renovations, with members of both families on hand for the event.

"We really appreciated the local boaters who shared the lake respectfully and allowed us to run 122 races over the course of the weekend," says Shawnigan Head of Rowing Operations, Colin Mattock.

The event served as a final tune-up before the CSSRA National Championships, which run May 31 - June 2 in St. Catharines, Ontario.
