New School Uniform

Wearing black & gold
If you visit the campus this fall you may notice something looks a little different – we have introduced a new school uniform! This change has in fact been in the works for a few years, culminating last school year with the formation of a special task force of students and staff members.

These changes are a natural next step in reinforcing brand consistency; thus, Shawnigan’s traditional colours of black and gold have become the focal point of the new design. “Our uniform now captures the spirit of Shawnigan. It is what we identify ourselves by,” says Gaynor Samuel, Director of Admissions and member of the Uniform Committee. “We stand proud with the black and gold.”

The Uniform Committee mandated that the new uniform be “comfortable and durable; fit for purpose; high quality and affordable; and more ‘uniform’ with enough variety to allow students to express themselves.” Daily uniform, Number 1’s, and sports gear have all been updated. School polo shirts are now white, black, or grey, with a gold shirt coming soon. School blazers are black instead of navy, and we now have a grey Junior tie and a black Senior tie for Number 1’s. The School worked closely with our new uniform supplier to create a registered Shawnigan tartan for our kilt, which is now part of the girls’ daily uniform after receiving overwhelming support from the student panel.

Overall, these changes have been well-received by students – indeed, many of our returning senior students who were allowed to phase out their old school uniform have opted to switch to the new one!
