Inter-House events at Shawnigan are instrumental in providing an avenue for students to connect, have fun, let loose and show their House spirit in an exciting and memorable way. Throughout the year, students have enjoyed many different inter-House events in academic, artistic, and athletic disciplines. In the lead-up to the end of the school year, the School community participated in one of the biggest events of the year, Inter-House Track and Field. Gathering after lunch on a Saturday, the fields were a sea of colour as students donned their finest House colours and prepared for an afternoon of friendly competition. From long jump to high jump, and shot put to sprints, there was something for everyone.
Under sunny skies and with music blaring, the energy and enthusiasm of the students could be felt across campus. With the end of the school year just around the corner, the anticipation of this being the final inter-House event meant that not only was the competition fierce, but there was a sense of awareness for students knowing that these gatherings would come to an end very soon. For Head of Athletics Tim Murdy, this event stood out to him as the most exemplary display of inter-House spirit he has witnessed since arriving at the School, and he has been here for 16 years!
Congratulations to Renfrew for the big win on the girls' side and to Duxbury for their win on the boys' side. Honourable mentions went to Groves’ and Renfrew Houses for their exceptional displays of House spirit. The track and field event did not disappoint as the final inter-House of the year. Students will put this year behind them with great memories and enter the next school year with a strong desire to uphold their House titles!
Student Life Unparalleled is something that Shawnigan strives to uphold. As a pillar of the School's strategic plan, Project Future, we are well on our way to ensuring students experience a sense of belonging and community. Through events like this, the foundation has been established.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
