The History of Founder’s Awards

Our founder, C.W. Lonsdale, believed that exceptional students are deserving of a Shawnigan education regardless of financial means. To honour this vision, we have recently renamed our financial aid commitment as Founder’s Awards.

Today, more than 40% of families receive a Founder's Award. Upon receiving an award, students and their families commit to share in the financial responsibility for their education by pledging to pay it forward for another Shawnigan student in the future.

Founder's Awards have been a partnership through generations. Alumni and other supporters extend the opportunity of a Shawnigan education to future students who are empowered to achieve their promise as individuals and graduate from Shawnigan prepared to make a difference in the world. Our Founder's Awards are directly funded from our endowment through the following named funds:

  • Alberta Scholar Fund
  • Alumni Family Fund
  • Bill Bice Memorial Fund
  • Centennial Endowment Fund
  • CW Lonsdale Bursary
  • Dorthy-Jane Boyce Bursary Fund
