Maple Bay Regatta

Strong results for rowers

There's a buzz around the Read Crewhouse after several recent strong results.

This weekend, rowers competed at the Maple Bay Regatta, earning numerous top three finishes and other positive results.

The Junior B Women coxed quad is proving to be the School's most prolific crew so far, winning their race and leading Shawnigan's girls contingent to an aggregate victory for the first time in many years. The girls (Mikayla B., Georgia H., Nicole L., Ellexi F., and Olivia B.) also won the Under-17 event at Elk Lake the previous weekend. Ellexi also teamed up with another Grade 9, Meghan G., to win the Novice Women's 2x race against a field of Under-17 and U-19 competitors.

Continuing their strong early-season form, the Junior Men coxed quad (Owen B., Sam A., Dredyn F., Oscar C., and Gou L.) won their event after a second place finish at Elk Lake.

Shawnigan girls also earned seven different second place finishes, including the Jr B women's 2x, the Jr B women's 1x, the Jr A women's 1x, the Jr A women's 4x, the Jr A women's 8+, the Lightweight women's 4x, and the Lightweight women's 1x.

The School also placed third in five different events, while the new Novice Men's 8+ made their debut and earned high praise for their positive energy and work ethic behind the scenes.

The next month will be busy for Shawnigan rowers, with the Brentwood (April 27-29) and Shawnigan (May 11-13) Regattas on the calendar. Coaches are also looking to finalize nominations for crews hoping to compete at the CSSRA national championships in Ontario in June.
