First action for Grade 8 girls and co-ed squad

While competing at a AAA Provincial Championship is still a long way off, a handful of Grade 8 girls have taken their first steps.

The Grade 8 field hockey team made its debut on Saturday, marking the first competitive action for many of the players involved.

Competing against a club team from the Cowichan Valley, the girls lost their opener by a comfortable margin. However, Coach Claire Linn says the girls learned a lot and have built high hopes for future competition.

The Grade 8s return to Duncan for their next tournament on April 21.

Meanwhile, Shawnigan's debut senior co-ed team opened the season on Saturday morning with an exhibition against a touring team from Calgary.

Coach Andi Conroy reports great hockey played and great friendships begun, as Shawnigan looks forward to the opening of the spring league.
