Life skills relay

Grade 9 students learn life hacks
From changing a tire to boiling an egg, students have gained some valuable skills during Monday's Life Skills Relay.

As part of the School's Student Life curriculum, the event saw groups of Grade 9 students visit seven different stations focused on practical skills, ranging from cooking and laundry, home economics and auto maintenance to orienteering, CPR and fire starting.

At each station, students spent 15 minutes learning about the specific activity, while also developing teamwork and camaraderie.

Director of Student Life Matt Clinton-Baker says this new initiative builds on other elements of the Student Life curriculum, as the School helps students prepare for happy, healthy lives after leaving Shawnigan.

Students will revisit these life skills in subsequent grades.
