Brentwood Regatta

A windy weekend in Mill Bay

Shawnigan crews claimed five medals this weekend as the School joined 30 clubs from around the Pacific Northwest at the 48th annual Brentwood Regatta.

After a slow start due to high winds on Friday, racing proceeded mostly as scheduled throughout the weekend, with crews battling head-to-head in one of the largest regattas in the region.

Shawnigan's junior girls had another outstanding weekend, once again leading the School's medal tally. The Under-17 lightweight women's 4+ crew of Meghan G., Selena L., Maya V., Candice L., and coxswain Olivia B. took first place in their event. The four rowers then joined Phoebe S., Anna K., Cindy W., Erin O., and cox Kylie K., to win the U-17 lightweight women's 8+ race.

Shawnigan also won silver medals in the U-17 JV Women's 4x+ and the U-17 Women's 4+, while taking bronze in the U-17 Men's 4x+.

Shawnigan Head of Rowing Colin Mattock says the School's athletes made finals in a multitude of events, with "good, gritty racing from all." And while the junior girls continue to earn the most notable results, Mr. Mattock also paid tribute to the valuable leadership being shown by the seniors.
