Inter-house Track and Field

Friendly rivalries renewed
House rivalries coloured the opening weekend of the year, as students and local families gathered for the annual Inter-house Track and Field competition.

Typically run on the opening Sunday of the year, this year's event was moved to Saturday afternoon to outpace the incoming rain storm.

The resulting competition generated outstanding house spirit on all sides, and while there was some exciting athletic competition, the focus of the event was on encouraging participation and offering an inclusive welcome to our new students.

Performing Arts Director Morgan McLeod earned special acclaim for his comedic commentary, while new students got an early taste of the energetic nature of Shawnigan's Inter-house program.

Saturday's winners were Ripley's and Groves' Houses, with Copeman's and Strathcona in second.

The 2017-18 Inter-house Cup winners were Lonsdale's and Strathcona.

The next event in the 2018-19 calendar is the volleyball competition, scheduled for Sept. 16.
