Grade 8s learn to play

First Contact

New athletic passions were sparked, as Shawnigan boys played their first rugby games of the season.

With many playing competitive rugby for the first time, Shawnigan hosted SMUS on Thursday for a game of rugby sevens.

Shawnigan Coach Wes Plater says the back-and-forth affair left everyone feeling fulfilled, adding that "Rugby was the winner on the day." Coach Plater also laughed that the wet conditions were ideal, making for a more authentic experience, plus softer playing conditions.

The teams will match up again next week at SMUS.

Meanwhile, a large number of Grade 9s also made their rugby debuts on Thursday, as the School hosted SMUS and Brentwood for a PlayDay mini tournament.

Coach Remi Anctil says the developmental jamboree saw the sides playing rugby 15s and 10s, revealing a great deal of potential and leaving players happy and excited for the hard work ahead.
