With our fine fall skies, we have been working on several projects at the Shawnigan Lake School Observatory. The first one to be completed was imaged and processed by Candice L. in Grade 12. This image of the North American Nebula and Pelican Nebula contains over 18 hours of 20 minute exposures on Ha and SIII filters. She started the imaging in mid-September and completed her runs in early October. The images were calibrated using Maxim DL and then processed with PixInsight. The imaging equipment used is housed in our campus observatory and included a Takahashi 106 mm refractor on a Paramount GT1100s, Atik 16200 camera with and Optec LEO focuser and 2 inch Badder OIII and Ha filters. Candice spent five hours following a Light Vortex tutorial (http://www.lightvortexastronomy.com/tutorials.html) to process the bicolour palette combination.
