A visit to a local elementary school has given Shawnigan students a new way to connect with the community.
As part of the Shawnigan Life Program, the entire Grade 9 class journeyed to the Mill Bay Nature School on Wednesday, to spend time with pupils of the new venture.
After enjoying a welcome circle and introductions, the Shawnigan students were paired up with the youngsters for tours of the MBNS campus. The pairs were oblivious to the inclement weather as they ran, played, and explored.
For Shawnigan Director of Student Life Matt Clinton-Baker, "The trip was a chance just to go and see and get a feel for the Nature School, and to explore potential collaborations between the two schools."
As an outdoors-based institution, the Mill Bay Nature School shares Shawnigan's emphasis on experiential learning, while the instant and genuine connections shared among the students was particularly rewarding for the Grade 9 group.
Shawnigan Lake School is a co-educational boarding school on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The school is home to nationally-ranked academics, arts and athletics, with 100 per cent of graduates accepted to university.
