Sharing the gift of hockey

Shawnigan at the World Juniors

The World Under-20 Hockey Championship gave Shawnigan a golden opportunity to engage with the community.

Thanks to four anonymous donors, the school secured a private box for all of the games played at Vancouver's Rogers Arena.

In turn, Shawnigan opened the box up to a variety of stakeholders and groups in an effort to share the gift with the wider community.

Some games were reserved for staff and alumni, while others went directly to community groups (including the Canucks Autism Network, Kerry Park Minor Hockey, and the CSSHL).

A USA vs. Kazakhstan matchup on December 28th served as an EDGE fundraiser, as organizers work towards Shawnigan's upcoming service project in Costa Rica.

The two semifinal games, meanwhile, allowed Shawnigan to sell tickets directly to stakeholders, with all proceeds going towards financial aid at the school and in the local minor hockey district.
