An Homage to Perseverance

Duxbury / Prep Chapel

Duxbury House and Shawnigan Prep shared messages of encouragement as they led a chapel service dedicated to perseverance.

In opening Thursday morning's service, Duxbury Head of House Roberto G. conceded that he was the one who originally suggested that 'perseverance' be emblazoned on this year's Shawnigan 'word shirt.' "I'm a little obsessed with the word, actually," he laughed, as he introduced relevant, personal speeches from Will H. and Laura L.

After opening with He Who Would Valiant Be – itself a tribute to perseverance – the canonical Christian hymn was formally announced as the official Prep House hymn.

The service also included an original poem by Ethan R. – warning of the imminent English 12 Provincial exam – and a high-octane musical performance from members of both Duxbury and Prep, as they played Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home to an exuberant ovation.

With the school invigorated, Roberto concluded the service by offering a challenge to the entire school: "I dare that, through unsteady situations, you all grow faith – and keep hustling, and hustling, and hustling – with a purpose. Persevere to get to whatever or whoever you love. Keep your head held high. With a champion mentality, own your days … all of them."
