Matt and Ben

A play about fate, fantasy, and friendship.
Two Shawnigan actors are giving the school a glimpse inside a legendary friendship.

Matt and Ben takes the audience on a journey to the late 1990s, as Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck struggle to launch their careers.

Set entirely inside Affleck's Boston apartment, the show opens as the two work on a screen adaptation of The Catcher in the Rye.  Soon, their own original work - Good Will Hunting - begins to force its way into their lives, testing their talents, work ethic, and friendship.

Written by Brenda Withers and Mindy Kaling, the play flashes into the past, into the future, and into the realm of imagination, creating prototypical buddy scenes befitting their quintessential buddy movie.

Directed by Brydie Thomas, Matt and Ben is a product of Shawnigan's Drama Fine Art, and features energetic, personal performances from Kathleen H. and Uma T.

Running Friday and Saturday (7:30pm) in Shawnigan's Hugh Wilkinson Theatre, Matt and Ben offers a quirky and insightful peek into a struggle that's all too relatable.
