Hockey Commitments

Shawnigan's hockey program is celebrating a record year for university commitments.

 

Eight graduating female players enjoyed a signing ceremony this week, as they inked their letters of intent to university programs in Canada and the US. 

 

Meanwhile, two of the school's top male players – brothers Jojo and Seiya T. – committed their hockey futures to Yale University mid-season.  Graduating this year, Jojo will play at least one year of Junior A before entering the collegiate ranks, while Seiya still has two years remaining in his high school tenure.

 

The college commitments require hard work in both sport and academics, something not lost on Shawnigan's female Head Coach, Carly Haggard.  "These girls have put years of hard work and dedication into their academics and athletics. I am so proud of everything they have accomplished for the school and hockey program. Six out of the eight graduating players that committed to universities have been with us since the start of the program and have set the bar incredibly high for future student-athletes of the hockey program. This group is so very special, one that I won't forget anytime soon. They deserve everything they have gotten."

 

While most of these athletes are now contributing to the school's spring sports teams, many of them continue to train and practice in advance of varsity training camps beginning in August.
