Relay for Life

Supporting families battling cancer

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is a fundraising event aimed at showing the people with cancer in our communities that they’re not alone.

On Saturday, the School community embraced this fundraising even for the third year running. Jojo T. in his organizing role made sure to add colour and fun to this initiative, “The spirit of Shawnigan was in this event. We wanted to make people feel included and happy.”

Atoussa F., one of the two organizers of the Shawnigan event, stated that “We all walk together for the same purpose, and that is powerful.”

There was a sense of solemnity, as well, in the candle-light ceremony which ended the day. Malcolm S., Holly C., and Anika K. shared music and personal insights to help make the ceremony more meaningful for students.

Students were proud to raise more than $3,000 to help support families dealing with cancer. Atoussa and Jojo want especially to thank, “Ms. Allen, and Mr. Clinton-Baker for their assistance, as well as Bounce-a-Rama for providing the amazing bouncy castle people loved.”
