Terry Fox Run 2019

“It’s got to keep going without me”
Staff and students alike honoured Terry Fox’s wish to “keep going without me” at the annual Terry Fox Run, Oct. 1st., one day ahead of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock visit, Thursday.

The campus was a sea of red and white at the annual event to honour Canada’s own cancer-fighting hero, with runners starting the non-competitive four-kilometre run at Canada field.

Seiya T.C. finished first, but was soon swamped by a sea of sweating, panting classmates in red!

An ‘official’ Terry Fox Run T-shirt, in keeping with Shawnigan tradition, was handed on from student Malcolm S., passing from runner to runner, all trying to touch the hallowed shirt before the finish line. Kate S. sang “O Canada” and students ended up with a dive down the traditional ‘slip and slide.’

All "Toonies for Terry" donations will be passed on to the Terry Fox Foundation.

A special thanks to Mr. Brown, Mr. Williams, Mr. Swannell, and Ms. Hamilton, and to the grade 11s and grade 10s who stepped up to volunteer, and did a fine job!

“I don’t feel this is unfair. That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one. It happens all the time, to other people. I’m not special. This just intensifies what I did. It gives it more meaning. It’ll inspire more people…”

*Terry Fox, speaking at a press conference after his run ended prematurely in September, 1980. Terry died of cancer, his family beside him, on June 28, 1981, one month short of his twenty-third birthday.
