E-Club in Action

Heritage apple orchard restoration
Our Environment Club donned thick gloves and full rain gear on Saturday, traveling to beautiful Portland Island for some restoration work in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. They continued in the work they had begun last spring—restoring a severely overgrown heritage apple orchard on the island. Students spent the day clearing blackberry bushes and other weeds from around the apple trees, not letting the morning’s wet weather slow them down. This restoration project is nearly complete thanks to the efforts of several different school groups and community clubs.

The E-Club was able to take advantage of their lovely surroundings by building in time for a nature walk along the beach. Overall, it was a great way to spend a fall day!
